Lesson Tips

1. Proper Attire

  • Breeches or Jodhpurs

  • Shirt (tucked in)

  • Tall boots or jodhpur boots

  • Approved Helmet

2. Be on time for your lesson

Arrive early enough before your lesson appointment to:
  • Groom and tack up your horse

  • Warm up your horse before the lesson if appropriate

3. Let your instructor know what your short term and long term goals are and about any concerns you have.

      Examples of short term goals:

  • Learn how to feel more comfortable on your horse

  • Learn how to post the trot correctly

  • Learn a particular movement

  • Handle the horse on the ground more effectively

      Examples of long term goals:
  • Learn to jump

  • Want to trail ride safely

  • Want to compete at shows

  • Learn dressage

Lunge line lessons are often used to help you learn correct position and balance. The horse travels in a circle around the instructor, who holds a lunge line attached to the horses bridle or lunge caveson. Since the instructor controls the horse, the student can concentrate solely on his riding skills.
